Tree Removal Questions, Answered in Plain English

Questions

Answers to common questions

Can I take down a tree myself?
A small sapling, maybe. A full-size tree, no. Trees weigh thousands of pounds, and one wrong cut can send the trunk the wrong way. Ladder falls and saw kickback (when the blade jumps back at you) hurt many people each year. If the tree is taller than you can reach, leans, or sits near your house or power lines, ask a local provider.
What is a tree falling service?
It is a provider who cuts a tree down in a safe, planned way. They check which way it leans, set ropes or use a lift if needed, and take it down in pieces or in one drop. Angelespeak Tree Service is a referral service. We connect you with independent providers in our network who do the work.
Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal?
It depends on your policy. Some policies may cover sudden damage, such as a tree that falls on your roof during a storm. Removing a healthy tree you just dislike is usually not covered. Check your policy and ask your insurer. Providers can often help document damage, with photos and a written note, for a claim.
How fast can I get emergency tree removal?
It depends on the provider and on how busy the area is after a storm. Many providers can respond quickly when a tree blocks a door or sits on a roof. Request a callback to check provider availability, or send an estimate request and tell us what is happening.
Do I need stump grinding after the tree is gone?
Not always. A stump is the part left in the ground after the tree comes down. Grinding turns it into wood chips. Many homeowners grind it to stop trips, pests and regrowth, and to clear the space for grass or a patio. You can also leave it. Ask the provider about both options and get the price for each in your written quote.
Is it safe to stay home with a leaning or cracked tree after a storm?
Stay away from the tree and from the side of the house closest to it. Keep kids and pets inside, in a room far from the tree. Never touch a downed power line or anything it touches. Call your utility for lines. For storm tree clearance, ask a provider to check the tree before anyone goes back outside.
How long does a tree removal usually take?
Most jobs take a few hours to a full day. It depends on the tree's height, how close it is to buildings, and how much debris you want hauled away. Tell the provider your week, such as school runs and work hours. Many can plan around you to keep the noise and mess low.
Does an older house need extra care during tree removal?
Often, yes. Older homes may have aging roofs, past repairs, old pipes or cracked slabs that roots have already touched. Tell the provider what you know. They can plan where limbs fall, where heavy gear rolls, and how to avoid weak spots. A written quote helps you compare plans before work starts.
